AI Singapore launches AIAP Foundation, a new AI-powered online course to equip aspiring AI Engineers with fundamental AI and software engineering knowledge and skills

AI Singapore today announced the launch of AIAP Foundation, a new online course aimed at equipping aspiring AI engineers with a strong foundation in industry-relevant AI and software engineering skills.

This new training course, developed in line with the National AI Strategy 2.0, empowers individuals to contribute to Singapore’s AI revolution. It opens new pathways for Singaporeans and local talents to pursue careers in AI engineering, enhancing the nation’s AI talent pool and supporting Singapore’s ambitious AI goals.

Kevin Chng, Head of AI Apprenticeship Programme (AIAP) said, “We continue to see high demand across companies in different sectors to adopt AI, sparking off a race for AI education to keep up with the needs of these organisations. With the AIAP Foundation, we hope to bridge this gap by offering a flexible, self-paced course that empowers anyone with programming skills to upskill in the applied field of AI engineering. The curriculum is guided by real-world examples to equip learners with realistic knowledge, enabling them to contribute game-changing solutions to power Singapore’s AI ambitions and explore more pathways into an AI engineering career.”

 

Specially designed curriculum to facilitate applied learning
The AIAP Foundation course is specifically designed for self-learners who may not have time to commit to full-time training. Designed by experienced AIAP-trained AI engineers, the curriculum is modelled after AI Singapore’s award-winning AIAP pedagogy and targeted at individuals with a basic proficiency in Python.
With a similar training ethos that focuses on applied learning, AIAP Foundation’s online curriculum will impart the practical knowledge and skills needed to deliver real-world AI projects through two distinct asynchronous learning phrases:

  1. Deep-skilling Phase: Learners will learn the fundamentals of exploratory data analysis (EDA), software engineering, AI, and building end-to-end machine learning pipelines through comprehensive materials, hands-on exercises and guided projects
  2. Project Phase: Learners will gain valuable industry development experience by applying and honing their technical skills to a personalised, real-world, synthetic data-driven AI project.

Unique to this programme, learners can elevate their skills further on a personalised project scoped by the AI-powered consultant agent. They will also receive personalised guidance and mentorship on their assignments from the AI-powered AI Engineer agent to master key concepts. Engaging with this tool will allow learners to explore and apply AI/ML principles, encourage critical thinking, and promote a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Additionally, they will receive customised feedback on their code to help them refine their programming and software engineering skills.

Complementing other initiatives to support Singapore’s AI ambitions
AIAP Foundation complements other flagship initiatives of AI Singapore to help people and organisations in Singapore capitalise on AI opportunities.

Upon completion of AIAP Foundation, participants who are interested in pursuing an AI engineering career can consider applying for the AIAP – a full time 9 months programme that provides greater intensive deep-skilling training and opportunity to work on real-world AI projects over seven months.

With a requirement for participants to have intermediate programming knowledge and basic knowledge of AI modelling, learners can use the AIAP Foundation to prepare for the Technical Assessment for AIAP. Since its launch, over 350 participants have graduated from AIAP and they have gone on to work for companies to develop new AI innovations.

AI Singapore is also committed to helping organisations accelerate their AI journeys through 100 Experiments (100E), a programme to solve industries’ artificial intelligence (AI) problem statements and help them build their own AI teams. To date, AISG has completed more than 100 AI projects.

Through these initiatives, AI Singapore is committed to strengthening the capabilities of both individuals and organisations. This is in line with the National AI Strategy 2.0 to uplift Singapore’s social and economic potential.
